AAIDD Delegation to Zambia, South Africa, Botswana and Zimbabwe
Study Tour
The goal of the delegation was to research the supports provided for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities in Zambia and South Africa. To learn firsthand about these approaches, the delegation visited service sites and meet with government and university partners, representatives of health, education, and social service systems, and participate in international symposia hosted by a leading universities and provider organizations.
Professional meetings and seminars included:
NAD/NAF – an overview of the collaborations of international organizations with Zambian entities, and in particular the work of NAD/NFU.
Cheshire School – this full day meeting consisted of an overview of the education system in Zambia, the work of the Cheshire School, and presentations from the delegates.
Shungu Inclusive School, – presentations from the delegates focusing on educational assessment of children with intellectual disability
Mukuni village visit – a home based instruction
University of Cape Town, presentations from UCT and some from the delegation.
